Experience

  1. Lead Web Developer @ embid.it

    2010 – current

    • After initial planning, launched a live prototype within a week that had the basic flow of listing an item for sale, bidding on the item and closing the listing.

    • Built out the entire stack with a Django backend and HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript frontend

    • Integrated 3rd party open-source solutions such as Postmarkapp for transactional emails and Celery for background tasks.

  2. Lead Web Developer @ Optimal Outsource

    2006 – 2011

    • Planned and implemented a web based order tracking system for customers and employees, more than doubling the company’s capacity for volume with the current staffing.

    • Lead feature and product planning with a focus on accessibility and usability with consideration of our userbase.

    • Handled most devops tasks including server setup, automated deployments and monitoring.

    • Built tools that automated monthly data processing improving effeciency and accuracy while helping us better understand our customer’s data.

    • Refreshed branding including company logo and marketing website and reevalutating content strategy.

  3. Host and Producer @ Blerghcast

    2009 – 2010

    • Co-hosted 12 episodes of the critically-acclaimed (not really) podcast Blerghcast.

    • Recorded and edited weekly episodes using GarageBand and Skype.

    • Designed and coded the main website, blergh.com, template on top of WordPress.

Skills

The skills are measured based on my comfort level with each one.

  • Photoshop 70%

    I know my layer styles, keep things organized and can create a solid comp.

    Exporting images for the web is second nature.

  • Illustrator 60%

    Can get around, but still slow on more advanced features like gradient meshes.

  • HTML 95%

    Been coding HTML for about 9 years now.

  • CSS 90%

    CSS saved my life! Currently practicing CSS3 techniques as well as OOCSS.

  • Javascript 80%

    Familiar with most patterns and best practices. Closures FTW!

  • jQuery 90%

    My hammer in nailing the DOM. Been working with jQuery for 3 years now and have written a couple of plugins.

  • Python 70%

    Started learning alongside Django for a little over a year now. In love!

  • Django 85%

    Picked up Django a little over a year ago for the admin panel. We now know a lot of each other’s little quirks.

  • PHP 70%

    Was my language of choice before Python.

  • Unix 60%

    Setup dozens of UNIX based web servers (Ubuntu and CentOS).

  • OSX 95%

    Made the switch in 2006 and never looked back.

Hobbies

Have had a passion for drawing and comics.

Riding single speed road bikes.

Snorkeling SoCal beaches.
